Significant incident at the SportFabrik: the Ministry of Sport and the LIHPS take note of the situation and will implement the necessary measures to maintain support for elite athletes

Following last weekend’s heavy rainfall, the Ministry of Sport and the Luxembourg Institute for High Performance in Sports (LIHPS) regret to announce that significant water damage has occurred at the SportFabrik. Rainwater that seeped into the SportFabrik through the emergency exit has caused considerable impairment to the laboratory and has severely damaged some of the testing equipment.

At this stage, the precise cause of the incident is still under investigation. Furthermore, in close collaboration with the City of Differdange, the required steps are being taken to assess the exact extent of the damage caused by this incident.

It is currently impossible to accurately determine the required timeframe for repairs, but our top priority remains to provide support for elite athletes during this period of SportFabrik’s unavailability.

The LIHPS and its partners are exploring solutions to maintain the best possible support for elite athletes in order to accompany them on their journey, particularly towards qualification and preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games under the current circumstances.
