Sports Medicine

Sports medicine consists of the medical care of athletes from pre-participation medical screening to prevention and treatment of injuries and illnesses occurring in relation with intense training and competition.

The Luxembourg Institute for High Performance in Sports arranges multi- and interdisciplinary sports medicine services through a privileged partnership with Luxembourg Olympic Medical Centre which is located at the Centre Hospitaler Luxembourg (CHL) Sports Clinic in Eich.

These services include advanced general sports medicine, sports cardiology, internistic sports medicine, exercise physiology, clinical biomechanics, surgical and nonoperative orthopedic sports medicine as well as sports physiotherapy and rehabilitation. The Centre closely collaborates with various national and international sports medicine experts and associations as well as the Luxembourg anti-doping agency (ALAD). It organizes and coordinates the sports medical support for the Luxembourgish teams at national and international sports events such as the Olympic Games, European Games, Olympic and European youth games and the Games of the Small States of Europe.

Through its research organization Luxembourg Institute of Research in Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Science (LIROMS), the Centre is a member of the prestigious global network of the International Olympic Committee’s research centres for the protection of the athletes’ health. It also organizes regular education for athletes, coaches and their staff members.
